Those who have cut the cord in order to get rid of cable often find themselves missing channels they used to have. But for those who specifically miss The Walking Dead, Mad Men, and other shows on the AMC network, there’s an alternative in AMC+.

In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about AMC+, including the monthly cost and what content is available on it.

What Is AMC+?

AMC+ is a streaming service launched in June 2020 by AMC Networks. It’s described as a “premium streaming bundle,” containing “the best of AMC,” along with programming from several AMC-owned networks and services.

AMC+'s different channels

These include AMC itself, as well as “the complete collections” of Shudder, Sundance Now, and IFC Films Unlimited. This also includes shows from AMC, BBC America, IFC, and Sundance TV.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapin described the company’s streaming strategy as viewing its brands as “specialty boutiques.” Rather than offer an expansive library like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max, AMC+ is being positioned as a fan-focused alternative.

AMC+, which uses the slogan “For Fans Only,” will hold special appeal to cord cutters who switched to Hulu + Live TV, which does not have AMC or any of the associated networks available.

How Much Does AMC+ Cost?

AMC+ costs $8.99/month. Unlike many other streaming services, AMC+ does not offer multiple tiers; the package is always $8.99/month. The service, rather than offering an ad tier like Peacock and some other services, is entirely advertising-free.

The service does offer a seven-day free trial, which can be purchased through the different partners, although the free trial is not available through Xfinity, Dish, or DirecTV.

How to Watch AMC+

AMC+ is available on Apple TV Channels, Amazon Prime Video Channels, Xfinity, DirecTV, Dish, Roku, and Sling TV. There are no standalone apps for iOS or Android devices, although if you subscribe through a provider, you can watch on that provider’s app.

The providers for getting AMC+

The new service launched first through Comcast and became available on Roku in November of 2020. This happened shortly before the Roku platform added HBO Max.

At the time of writing, AMC+ is available only in the United States.

What Content Does AMC+ Offer?

Across the different brands offered, there’s an impressive amount of content on offer from AMC+.

That starts with Mad Men, the series that first put AMC on the map as a prestige TV destination. After a brief streaming run on Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV in the summer of 2020, all seven seasons of the adventures of Don Draper and Co. jumped to AMC+ in October of that year.

The Walking Dead, available on AMC+

Also available if you subscribe to AMC+ are the most recent seasons of The Walking Dead franchise, including The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, although the older seasons of the original The Walking Dead remain exclusive to Netflix. However, AMC+ subscribers receive an early look at Walking Dead episodes, and the 10th season of The Walking Dead is only streaming on AMC+.

In addition, AMC+ is the streaming home of older AMC network shows like Hell on Wheels, and it also offers Rectify, the acclaimed drama series that first aired on the Sundance Channel. Rectify joined AMC+ in the spring of 2021 after many years of being available on Netflix.

If you love British shows, AMC+ is also a major destination. It’s the place to get acclaimed series such as Gangs of London, Spy City, and Riviera.

If you’re a fan of horror, Shudder is a must. The service, which is also available for a standalone subscription independently of AMC+, offers a long list of TV shows, including Creepshow, N0S4A2, The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, and Eli Roth’s History of Horror.

Shudder is also known for its movies, both its extensive catalog of horror hits, and regular premieres of originals. It’s the place where you can watch the original Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, along with newer classics like Ginger Snaps and The Babadook, and when a buzzy new horror title arrives, it often premieres on Shudder.

The horror available on AMC+

Of course, the movie offerings on AMC aren’t only in the horror genre. The Sundance Now and IFC sides of AMC+ offer a steady amount of classic movies. The IFC Films Unlimited roster includes Boyhood, Blue is the Warmest Color, City of Gold, Sleepwalk With Me, Sword of Trust, and more. Sundance Now’s movie roster includes Fargo, Lady Macbeth, The Deep Blue Sea, and My Week With Marilyn.

What’s Not on AMC+

Breaking Bad, not on AMC+

Not everything traditionally associated with AMC’s cable network is available on AMC+. That begins with Breaking Bad, which debuted all five of its seasons on AMC but remains exclusive to Netflix for streaming. This is also true of Better Call Saul, the spinoff of Breaking Bad. And when a sequel movie, El Camino, was made in 2019, that was for Netflix, not AMC.

There are also some IFC originals that you can’t get on AMC+. The documentary parody series Documentary Now has all three of its seasons exclusive to Netflix. Brockmire, another respected IFC series, has all four of its seasons exclusive to Hulu. Most of these omissions are a result of deals made long before AMC+ existed. Those shows could conceivably make their way to AMC+ eventually.

Is AMC+ the Same as AMC Premiere?

AMC+ should not to be confused with AMC Premiere, another streaming service also offered by AMC.

AMC Premiere is an add-on that’s available for those who already subscribe to AMC; AMC+ offers all the content AMC Premiere offers, in addition to all of the other content from Shudder, Sundance, IFC, and the other brands.

AMC is also not to be confused with the movie theater chain AMC Theaters, which is a completely unrelated company.

Is AMC+ Worth It?

AMC+ may not have as much total content on offer as some of the bigger streaming services, but it offers a great deal of quality stuff at a decent price.

There’s a winning combination of shows you know, new ones to discover, and a large library of movies. Which all adds up to make AMC+ worth the price of admission.
